How to start and follow a workout on the Apple Watch without touching our watch

Cómo empezar y seguir un entreno en el Apple Watch sin tocar nuestro reloj

The Apple Watch has radically transformed our interaction with technology, especially in the field of physical exercise. Apple's watch provides us with unprecedented access to information and control over our workouts in the most convenient way. We can tap or look at the screen to start or follow the data of a workout, but we can also do the same through our voice, which means, without touching the watch, we can enjoy any workout and all the information it offers.

How to start a workout through Siri

Interacting with Siri is essential to get the most out of the Apple Watch without needing to use our hands. Here, it's highly recommended that we activate the "Raise to Speak" function in the Siri settings (Settings > Siri) on our watch. This setting allows us to start a conversation with Siri simply by raising our wrist and speaking, without the need to touch the screen, press buttons, or even say "Hey Siri".

With this setting configured, we just raise our wrist and say something like "let's go for an outdoor run for 45 minutes". Siri will process our request and, after a brief three-second countdown, the workout will begin.

How to follow the progress of a workout thanks to Siri

Beyond the ease of starting workouts, the Apple Watch offers us the possibility to receive voice updates about our progress, without needing to look at the screen. This is really useful in certain workouts, where even the minimal interruption of looking at our watch can be too much.

To activate voice updates, we need to access the Settings app on our watch, go to the Workout section, and enable Voice Feedback. Then, we can listen to this feedback through connected AirPods or the built-in speaker in the watch, providing us with details such as the distance traveled, the elapsed time, and notifications upon reaching significant milestones in our workout.

As we can see, the use of Siri and voice notifications transforms the way we interact with our Apple Watch during exercise. It allows us to keep our attention on physical activity, freeing us from the need to physically interact with the device or to look at its screen to get information about our performance.
