Cómo grabar vídeos 3D con un iPhone

Among the many features of the Apple Vision Pro, one catches the eye from the very beginning, the ability to view 3D videos that we have recorded with our iPhone. A feature that comes to our iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS 17.2 and allows us to capture much more detail of any shot and enjoy it later like never before.

What are Spatial Videos?

Spatial videos represent a significant advancement in how we experience visual content. At first glance, on our iPhone, these videos seem conventional. However, their true potential unfolds when viewed on the Vision Pro, where they offer a fully immersive three-dimensional experience. This feat is achieved through advanced computational videography techniques and HEVC compression.

We can record these videos at 1080p quality and 30 frames per second, with a surprisingly compact file size of only 130MB per minute of recording. A really efficient format that allows us to store a considerable amount of videos without sacrificing the storage space of our devices.

How to Activate 3D Video Recording on the iPhone

To start recording spatial videos, which capture depth information, we must activate this function on our devices. The steps are as simple as these:

  1. We open Settings on our iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max.
  2. We select Camera and then enter the Formats section.
  3. In the "Video Capture" section, we activate the option Spatial Video for Apple Vision Pro.

With the function enabled, we are ready to record. Since the system uses the distance between the wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle cameras to determine the depth of the shot, we must keep our iPhone horizontal at all times. From this position, we simply open the Camera app, select the video recording mode, and activate the spatial video mode with the Vision Pro icon that appears in the bottom left. Then we start recording with the red button, as we would normally do.

As we have already mentioned, it's important to remember that these videos look conventional in the Photos app on our iPhone. The magic is fully revealed when we enjoy them on the Vision Pro. Meanwhile, on our phone, they will be distinguished with a small badge next to the name "Spatial" and in the corresponding section within the "Content Type" in Albums in the Photos app.

The effect that these kinds of videos can generate is something totally impressive. The feeling of being there, reliving what we recorded is something that, without a doubt, will make us want to record almost all our videos in 3D.
