March has traditionally been a key month for the Cupertino company, serving as a stage to introduce new technologies and significant updates. However, this year appears to be taking a different turn, as Apple's usual spring event has practically vanished, replaced by a series of releases through press notes and videos. Despite this strategic shift, Apple's outlook for 2024 remains promising, with many surprises still to come.
New iPads, the iPhone 16, Apple Watches, and much more
Rumors suggest that 2024 will be a renewal year for iPads, with iPad Pros adopting OLED screens and an M3 chip, promising improvements in performance and efficiency, and the iPad Air improving in power and with internal changes. These were the prime candidates for the Apple event this March, and they are still pending presentation.
The other candidate for the event was a new MacBook Air. And we say "was" because it has already been presented. We have seen the new MacBook Air M3 in both the 13-inch and 15-inch sizes.
In the software realm, the next big event after the now-vanished spring event is WWDC 24. The June developers' event will bring us the new iOS 18 with its emphasis on artificial intelligence, as well as new operating systems for the iPad, Mac, and other Apple hardware.
Further ahead, in September, we find the new iPhone 16 and also Apple Watch X—likely accompanied by a renewal of the Apple Watch Ultra—both of which are already generating anticipation. The transition to M3 chips in the Mac lineup and the development of new AirPods models, including a hybrid design and the transition to USB-C for charging, are also elements that will likely be presented this fall.
Although the absence of an event in March might seem like a quiet start to the year for Apple, the reality is that 2024 is shaping up to be a year of significant advancements and news. From software updates that will transform how we use our devices to the launch of new hardware in the form of iPads, iPhones, or Apple Watches, Apple continues to set the pace in the technology industry. We'll see what surprises they have in store for us beyond this spring.
