Spatial Audio in Apple Music allows us to experience songs in a fully immersive way. A format that a large part of Apple's streaming catalog offers and that completely transforms our listening experience. Let's talk about what it is and how to enjoy Spatial Audio on any of our devices.
How to activate Spatial Audio on our iPhone or iPad
Spatial Audio is the name Apple has given to songs within its Apple Music catalog that are stored in a Dolby Atmos container. This technology offers us surround sound, as if we were right in the middle of the musical action.
For those of us using Apple headphones, whether AirPods (with which we can customize our Spatial Audio experience) or Beats, Spatial Audio activation is automatic. But if we opt for third-party headphones or want to confirm the configuration is correct, the process is as simple as this:
- Open the Settings app on our iPhone or iPad.
- Enter Music.
- Tap on Dolby Atmos.
- Choose Automatic if we are going to use AirPods or Beats or Always On for other headphones.
In step three, we will also notice the option Download in Dolby Atmos, which will allow us to download content that, when listened to offline, will also be enhanced with Spatial Audio.
How to activate Spatial Audio on our Mac
This new way of listening to music is also available on our Macs. In this case, the steps for its configuration are as follows:
- Open the Music app on our Mac.
- In the Music menu, choose Preferences.
- Enter the Playback tab.
- In Dolby Atmos, choose Automatic if we are going to use AirPods or Beats or Always On for other headphones.
Again, it is important to go to the General tab to mark the option Download Dolby Atmos if we want this musical format in offline music.
Spatial Audio transforms our music listening experience. It's a format that advances beyond traditional stereo, offering a richer array of nuances in the music we love. Similar to how we can switch to mono audio on our iPhone, this format and experience can be easily activated with the simple press of a button.
