What to do if one AirPod sounds louder than the other

Qué hacer si un AirPod suena más fuerte que el otro

Although it's uncommon, sometimes we may notice that one of our AirPods sounds louder than the other. This situation often has a simple explanation and an even simpler solution. In fact, there are several resources available to address it. Let's take a look.

An easy fix if we follow this steps

The key to addressing these types of situations is to know the cause of the difference in volume between our AirPods. Most of the time, the software is responsible, so we have several resources. However, before proceeding with more complex solutions, it's important to perform some basic checks:

  1. Make sure that both the charging case and both AirPods are fully charged. If necessary, connect the case to power with the headphones inside for a couple of hours.
  2. Restart the iPhone, iPad, or Mac to rule out temporary software errors and place the AirPods in the case for a few seconds before reconnecting them to the device.

Once the correct charge status is ensured and a basic restart has been performed, there are several things we can check to adjust the volume correctly:

  1. Go to the Audio/Visual section in the Accessibility settings of our device to ensure that the audio balance is centered at 0.00.
  2. In the Settings app > Music, select EQ and disable it to avoid automatic sound modifications.
  3. Using other headphones, check that the problem does not come from the specific music application.
  4. To rule out specific hardware problems, try the same AirPods with another iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  5. Temporarily switch to mono audio (Settings > Accessibility > Audio/visual and activate Mono Audio) to evaluate how the sound is distributed between both headphones.

If after these steps the imbalance persists, the best approach is to carefully clean the headphones, update their software, and if necessary, restore them to their factory settings. In extreme cases, a visit to the Apple Store may be necessary for a deeper evaluation and, potentially, a repair.

Although it's rare to have an imbalance in the volume of our AirPods, we have the tools and knowledge at our disposal to effectively and quickly solve these inconveniences. By following these steps, we can ensure the optimal performance of our headphones and hear equally in both AirPods whatever we are listening to.
