How to Generate Playlists in Apple Music with ChatGPT

AppleMusic ChatGPT

Thanks to the integration between ChatGPT and Apple Music, we can create personalised playlists in our favourite music app just by describing what we want to listen to to OpenAI’s artificial intelligence. With this extension, we can discover new music, find the best songs for a particular occasion, and organise them into different playlists automatically. A very convenient way to enjoy Apple Music.

Creating full playlists with a single sentence

Thanks to the integration between Apple Music and ChatGPT, we can generate playlists simply by explaining the kind of music we want. We can ask for something like “soft rock for a rainy afternoon” or “upbeat 80s songs for a road trip.” ChatGPT understands the context and gives us the results.

We can even fine-tune our requests further by combining several criteria, such as “instrumental jazz with prominent saxophone and a runtime of under five minutes.” Once the playlist has been generated, we can listen to a 30-second preview of each song directly from ChatGPT. If we like it, a single tap on the Create Playlist in Apple Music option will add the selection to our library. Only interested in one result? We can also save individual songs with the “+” button to add them to playlists we already have.

How to enable Apple Music in ChatGPT

Before we can create our playlists, we need to connect Apple Music to our ChatGPT account. This is something we only have to do the first time, by following these steps:

  1. We open the ChatGPT app and tap our profile in the sidebar.
  2. We go into Account and then Apps.
  3. We tap Explore Apps and look for Apple Music in the extensions library.
  4. We select Connect and then Connect Apple Music.
  5. We sign in with our Apple account and authorise access.

It is also worth noting that we do not need an Apple Music subscription to search or listen to the 30-second previews, although we do need one to save playlists to our library and enjoy full playback.

Music, yes, but what about privacy?

The ChatGPT and Apple Music integration is designed so that ChatGPT cannot access our listening history or our existing playlists. The extension only has permission to add new songs to our library. This means we can explore all the recommendations that OpenAI’s artificial intelligence suggests to us without compromising our privacy at any point, something Apple has always treated as a priority.

Apple Music and ChatGPT let us enjoy the best of both worlds: the intelligence to understand what we want to hear, and access to the full catalogue with the ease of saving and sharing our playlists with a single tap. A feature that, without a doubt, sounds really good.
