Apple appears to be exploring a new relationship with Google: according to rumors, it's in "active negotiations" to license Gemini, Google's ambitious set of generative artificial intelligence models, with the goal of powering more AI features in iOS 18.

Apple may include Gemini in its Generative AI

Artificial intelligence has become a crucial field for tech companies, each seeking to offer the most advanced and personalized experiences to their users. And, in this context, in the words of Tim Cook himself, we know that Apple will revolutionize generative AI.

The company has been working on generative artificial intelligence for some time. From creating videos from text, modifying images with voice commands to Siri, automating software development with Xcode, and more, several of its new AIs have already been confirmed and patented.

And now, according to recent reports from Bloomberg, Apple also seeks to integrate Google's Gemini to enrich its apps and services with additional text and image generation capabilities. Gemini stands out for its flexibility, offered in three versions: Nano, Pro, and Ultra, each designed to meet different needs, from complex tasks to efficient operations on the device.

We don't know Apple's objectives, but we assume this diversity would allow Apple to adapt AI capabilities to a wide range of applications, from interface improvements in information processing to advanced photo editing features and content generation.

However, just as Apple has been using ChatGPT technology for internal testing and as a benchmark, but will not rely on OpenAI's models to power AI functions in iOS 18, something similar might happen with Gemini.

We know that Apple has been developing its own AI solutions, notably aimed at being processed directly on the device, which fully guarantees our privacy. In this context, the integration of Gemini into iOS 18 is likely to be part of a hybrid system where Apple's artificial intelligences take charge of tasks involving more sensitive data, while leaving the cloud-based AI prowess to Google.

Regardless, it's clear that Apple is dedicating significant dedication and resources to build a robust and diversified AI that will allow us to enjoy technology like never before. And while negotiations seem to be ongoing, we're likely to receive formal announcements around WWDC in June.
