OpenAI has launched its first official ChatGPT app for macOS, available to everyone for free. This app promises seamless integration and the ability to access advanced AI features right from our desktop. However, not all Macs are included.
The ChatGPT App arrives fully integrated into our desktops
After a period of exclusive testing for ChatGPT Plus subscribers, OpenAI has released its eagerly awaited ChatGPT app for macOS to all users at no cost. But, it has been optimized exclusively for Macs with Apple Silicon.
This new macOS ChatGPT app is not just a transfer of its web version to a standalone application; OpenAI has worked to ensure that the app adapts and integrates seamlessly with the hardware and operating system of Macs with Apple Silicon, thus guaranteeing a smooth experience.
With a native design, this powerful tool will offer us quick and accurate responses (which can now read aloud to us) with the most natural interaction for all Apple users. Starting with the fact that we can access the app at any time using the simple keyboard shortcut Option + Space, similar to the one we know for Spotlight search (Command + Space).
Just by pressing these two keys, from wherever we are, we can start interacting immediately with ChatGPT, either through text (the most common) or through Voice Mode (by tapping the headphone icon in the bottom right corner). This last feature is expected to improve significantly in the coming weeks with GPT-4o, making the interaction experience even closer to a real human conversation.
Additionally, just like in the web version, we can attach files, photos, and screenshots directly to our messages, allowing it to incorporate that material into its responses.
The application is now available to download for free from OpenAI's website, and ChatGPT Plus subscribers will be able to log in to access all the advanced features. This truly marks a significant milestone in the incorporation of AI into our daily lives, allowing us constant interaction with the most advanced technologies and providing us with everything from immediate responses to creative and technical assistance.
