Many services and apps offer us subscriptions. We often find trial periods before we start paying for the subscription. Whether we want to avoid being charged after the trial period or we want to cancel an active subscription, Apple makes it very easy for us.
How to cancel a subscription with Apple
We can manage a subscription on our iPhone or iPad, and since the subscriptions are directly linked with our Apple ID, the changes will take effect on all our devices. To edit a subscription, the steps to follow are:
- Open the Settings app on our iPhone or iPad.
- Tap our name at the top.
- Enter Subscriptions.
Here we will see our subscription information divided between ACTIVE, which we are currently using, either in a trial period or covering the regular fee, and EXPIRED, for those that have ended after we stopped paying.
Focusing on active subscriptions, below the app name, we find the name of the plan to which we are subscribed. This information is important, as it indicates the duration of the subscription in parentheses, monthly, yearly, quarterly, etc. Right below, we find the next renewal date, i.e., the next charge date. Additionally, on the right side, the price we are paying is displayed.
Do we want to cancel a subscription? We'll do it like this:
- Tap on the subscription we are interested in.
- Tap Cancel trial period or Cancel subscription depending on whether we are in the free trial or have already paid for the service at some point.
When to cancel a subscription with Apple
Now, when should we cancel a subscription? Cancelling a free trial period means immediately losing access to the service, so in this case, make sure to do it close to its renewal date and no later than 24 hours before the payment is due. If we have already paid some monthly (or yearly) fees, by cancelling the subscription, we will still have access until the next renewal date, even though it will not occur. Thus, in this case, we can cancel whenever we consider it appropriate to avoid forgetting later, and continue using the service.
As we can see, the ease that Apple offers to manage our subscriptions is enormous. In one place, we can see all our monthly fees, as well as the ongoing free trials and cancel what we need when we need it.
