For years now, being able to quickly access the camera from the Lock Screen on our iPhone simply by swiping to the left has allowed us to capture photos in a matter of seconds. However, sometimes we might trigger it unintentionally when taking the phone out of our pocket or when picking it up or putting it down on the table. With that in mind, we can now disable this gesture and access our camera in other ways.
How to disable the swipe gesture to open the camera
Disabling this gesture is really simple and, as with most of the settings on our iPhone, it is just a few taps away in the Settings app. These are the steps:
- We open the Settings app on our iPhone.
- We go into the Camera section.
- We scroll down until we find the option Swipe on the Lock Screen to open Camera and turn it off.
It is worth remembering, though, that even if we disable this gesture, the camera is still within our reach in other ways. We can press the button in the bottom right corner of the screen, use Camera Control on the more recent iPhone models and the action button on the rest of the phones.
This way, we can avoid accidental activations while at the same time keeping access to the camera as fast as possible so we can capture our surroundings as soon as possible. A small adjustment that, in certain scenarios, with certain cases or accessories or, simply, depending on our preferences, can be very useful for us.
