Apple has just released iOS 26, iPadOS 26 and macOS Tahoe. And among all the new features, we find AutoMix. An option that completely changes our music listening in the Music app on our devices by achieving much smoother transitions between all songs. A system that uses rhythm and key analysis to link each track at the ideal moment, resulting in a continuous mix in true DJ style.
While the Crossfade feature already allowed us to smooth the change between songs, AutoMix goes one step further thanks to its ability to trim time and adapt key and tempo to achieve a total sense of continuity when playing playlists and albums.
How to enable AutoMix in Apple Music
AutoMix works automatically once we enable it, and its magic lies in how it analyzes the key and tempo of songs to create a flawless transition between tracks. We can especially notice the difference in playlists with more rhythmic genres, although it also has interesting effects with other kinds of music, where the abrupt jump between songs practically disappears.
Enabling AutoMix is very simple. From the Settings app, these are the steps to follow:
- Open the Settings app on our iPhone or iPad.
- Scroll down and tap on Apps.
- Find the Music app and enter it.
- Scroll down to the Audio section and tap on Song Transitions.
- Turn on the Song Transitions switch if it’s not already enabled.
- Select the AutoMix option and make sure the checkmark appears next to it.
From here, we just need to play any album or playlist and let AutoMix work its magic, linking each track to the next without us even noticing the change.
If at any point we prefer to return to normal playback, we can disable AutoMix using the same setting where we enabled it or through the Music app itself in the shuffle and repeat options visible in the play queue.
AutoMix turns any playlist into a continuous and immersive listening experience. The next time we play our favorite playlist, we’ll notice how each song comes in right at the perfect moment.
