Is Tim Cook retiring? Apple’s CEO responds to the rumors

¿Tim Cook se retira? El CEO de Apple responde a los rumores

In a recent interview with Good Morning America, Apple CEO Tim Cook addressed a question that has been hanging over the company for quite some time, especially now that we are celebrating Apple’s 50th anniversary and looking ahead to the future.

Tim Cook clearly responds to the rumors about his future at Apple

For months, information has been circulating about a possible change in Apple’s leadership. Especially after several reports pointed out that the company had been preparing a transition for some time. In fact, last year the Financial Times reported that Cook was expected to step down from his position at the beginning of 2026.

During a visit to a school in Harlem, one of many with which Apple is expanding its collaboration with the Save the Music Foundation to promote music education, and in an interview with Michael Strahan on Good Morning America for Apple’s 50th anniversary, we got Tim Cook’s first comment regarding these rumors: they are just rumors.

Asked directly whether he plans to step down, he replied that he cannot imagine his life without Apple and that, when you love what you do, it does not feel like work. So, although the answer still leaves many questions open, it clearly tells us that, for now, Tim Cook remains fully involved in Apple’s present.

The full interview can be watched here, where Cook talks, among other things, about Apple’s biggest contributions over the past 50 years, artificial intelligence and privacy, and the healthy use of technology:

John Ternus still appears to be the strongest name

Although Tim Cook remains in charge, there have long been names inside Apple that are being watched especially closely. The one mentioned most often is John Ternus, Apple’s current Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, whom many see as the strongest candidate to take over when the time comes.

Over the past year, Ternus has gained more public visibility in product presentations, interviews, and Apple’s official videos. In addition, various U.S. media outlets report that Cook recently handed him greater responsibility over key design and engineering teams.

Tim Cook’s future at Apple may remain tied to the company

After Steve Jobs, Apple has gone through one of its most interesting periods under Tim Cook’s leadership. We have seen services such as Apple TV and Apple Music become established, the product ecosystem grow, new categories such as Apple Vision Pro arrive, and the integration between hardware, software, and services grow stronger.

Tim Cook turned 65 last year (last year he spoke to us about his personal life in a very interesting podcast), so the questions are starting to become inevitable. And it is clear that the company must begin to prepare its continuity carefully, in a strategic and appropriate way.

One of the most talked-about options is that, when the time comes, Cook could move on to become executive chairman of the board of directors. So, in the future, he may continue to accompany the company’s evolution from another key position.

But for now, the message is clear: Tim Cook is still here, fully involved in Apple and showing the same dedication he has demonstrated for more than a decade. And listening to his own words, it seems he still has more road ahead of him.
