Safari is probably one of the apps that receives the most use from us. As our gateway to the information available on the internet, it's understandable that we dedicate most of our time to it. And a large part of this time is spent opening links and URLs.
From a productivity standpoint, every second counts, and if it's an activity we perform hundreds—if not thousands—of times a day, it's good to know how to do it in the most comfortable and efficient way. Let's talk about how and when to open Safari links in new tabs.
How to open a Safari link in a new tab
We're reading an article, like this one, and we come across a link that tells us how to know if someone is spying on us from our iPhone and how to solve it, for example. What do we do? If we tap on it, we'll jump to that article and lose sight of the one we're reading. The solution is to open it in a new tab where we can later go to without having to close or stop reading the current tab.
On our iPhone or iPad, opening a link in a new tab is something we can do in two different ways. We can long-press on the link and select Open in New Tab from the contextual menu. With this, we open the desired link without losing sight of the current page. Or, alternatively, we can tap on the link with two fingers, which immediately opens it in a new tab.
As for our use on the Mac, the process is equally simple but quite different. By holding down the Command (⌘) key while clicking on a link, we ensure that it opens in a new tab. A process we can repeat for all the links we want.
With this simple trick, we significantly optimize our use of Safari, allowing us to improve our efficiency and, above all, comfort when accessing information from the web. It's a small change, but it makes a significant difference.
