AirPods are extremely easy to use. Simply take them out of their case, put them in your ears, and they automatically connect to the corresponding device to start playback. Yet, sometimes — albeit rarely — it seems like one of the earbuds wants to take a vacation. Fortunately, there is an easy solution. Let's see what we can do when only one AirPod is working.
How to Fix the Connectivity of Our AirPods
The first step is to make sure both earbuds have enough battery. Place the AirPods in their case for at least 5 minutes, making sure the case is also charged. If we see an orange light when inserting the earbuds, we know they are charging. While we wait, it's a good idea to restart our iPhone or iPad to rule out any issues on that end.
If the situation is still unresolved, we will proceed to reset the AirPods. It sounds intimidating, but it's a matter of 15 seconds. First, we open the Settings app on our iPhone or iPad and tap on our AirPods' name. If we can't find it directly, we go to the Bluetooth section and tap the 'i' icon next to our AirPods in the list. Scroll down and select Forget This Device while both AirPods are in their charging case.
Next, we look for the small button on the back of the case. With the case lid open, we press this button for at least 15 seconds, until the case light flashes white, then amber, and finally returns to white. This flashing indicates that the AirPods have been reset. We close the case lid, wait a few seconds, and then, with our device nearby, open the lid to pair the earbuds again.
With these simple steps, we can solve any error that might cause one of the AirPods — or both — to not work properly. Although it is rare for one of the earbuds to stop working for reasons other than low battery, it's more than useful to know that by simply pressing a button, we can continue to enjoy our music without interruption.
