Apple has just launched updates. We're talking about iOS 17.3 for the iPhone, iPadOS 17.3 for the iPad, and watchOS 10.3 for the Apple Watch. These updates bring several significant changes, some focused on security, others on adding new functionalities, and the rest to generally make our devices even more capable. Let's detail the 7 main new features that this new version of Apple's operating system brings.
Seven changes for the operating system of our iPhone
Remember that we can install the updates on our devices by opening the Settings app, then going to General and Software Updates. Here we can install the new versions and enjoy their new features, these are:
- Protection for Stolen Devices: One of the most notable new features is the new anti-theft mode for the iPhone. This function significantly increases iPhone security by requiring biometric authentication, either through Face ID or Touch ID, without the option to use a passcode, to perform certain sensitive actions. This implies greater protection against unauthorized access, especially in situations of theft or loss. Additionally, it includes a one-hour security delay for extremely sensitive actions like changing the Apple ID or device password, giving the owner time to take measures such as activating lost mode or changing passwords. We can activate this new protection in Settings > Face ID & Passcode.
- Collaborative Playlists in Apple Music: Music is better when shared, and with this update, we can now collaborate on playlists with friends. All collaborators, once invited, can add, reorder, and delete songs, turning each playlist into a shared and dynamic experience.
- Emoji Reactions in Playlists: In addition to being able to collaborate on Apple Music playlists, iOS 17.3 introduces the ability to add emoji reactions to any track, adding a personal and fun touch to our musical experience.
- New Unity Wallpapers: In celebration of Black History Month, iOS 17.3 introduces the new "Unity" wallpaper, which honors black history and culture.
- AirPlay Support in Hotels: An ideal feature for travelers, as it allows us to stream content directly to our hotel room TV. A feature announced during WWDC23 that is now officially available in many establishments.
- AppleCare and Warranty in the Settings app: Now we can see the AppleCare coverage and warranty for all devices where we have logged in with our Apple ID in the Settings app. This integration makes it easier to manage our Apple devices and services, offering a clear and accessible view of the status of our warranties.
- Optimizations in Accident Detection: Specifically for iPhone 14 and 15 models, this update includes improvements in accident detection, which will prevent false positives and ensure necessary help in emergency situations.
