Netflix has announced that starting in July 2024, older TVs and devices will cease to support the app. This decision will affect many users who will no longer be able to access the platform's content normally. If we want to continue using Netflix, it is crucial that we check whether our TV model is on the list and consider the possibility of an upgrade.
Netflix will not work on all these TVs starting in July: Complete list
Aiming to optimize user experience, Netflix has decided to discontinue support for certain devices and TV models starting next July. The measure affects Apple and Sony devices. Here's the complete list.
Starting with Apple, the second and third generation of Apple TVs will no longer be able to use the Netflix app. These devices, launched between 2010 and 2012, lack the capacity to meet the demands of new software updates due to their older hardware.
As for Sony, all models released in 2014 will be affected: the X83 Series, S9 Series, W5 Series, W6 Series, W7 Series, W70 Series, X80 Series, W85 Series, W95 Series, X85 Series, X9 Series, and X95 Series. None of these will be able to access Netflix from July onward.
Why this change? Netflix has assured that this update is necessary to continue providing a high-quality user experience, including better video quality and new features that older devices simply cannot run. It's an update that seeks to prioritize those models capable of supporting the latest functionalities and improvements of the platform.
Solution? The best solution is to buy new Sony TVs, upgrade to newer versions of Apple TV (which will bring many more advantages besides being able to watch Netflix), or consider alternative Smart TVs such as recent Roku devices. And recent (meaning released less than 10 years ago) is key. Because we must remember that in 2019, Netflix also discontinued support for several older Samsung models, first-generation Roku devices, and even various Smart TVs from famous brands like Vizio or Toshiba.
It's worth noting that if our device is on the list, Netflix may send us an email. And above all, the subscription to the streaming platform will remain active. We simply need to change the way we access it.
This decision could indeed force many users to reconsider their current home entertainment setups, especially those relying on overly outdated devices. Something that, seen in perspective and beyond Netflix, is always good to keep up to date for a better personal experience and to ensure our continuous access to digital services in an ever-changing world.
