How to measure our exact temperature with the Apple Watch

Apple Watch medir temperatura

Since its launch, the Apple Watch has become essential in monitoring and improving our health. The most recent models go far beyond step counting or heart rate tracking, and can, for example, measure our exact temperature. Let’s look into this in more detail.

How temperature measurement works on the Apple Watch

At first glance, it might seem that the Apple Watch gives us a direct reading of our body temperature. However, what the device actually provides is a record of the average of our temperature. Based on a baseline value, what we see in the Health app on our iPhone is the trend of our temperature.

If we see a reading showing +1,26°F compared to usual, we know something’s not quite right, but we don’t know the exact temperature. In fact, in most cases, seeing the trend or variation is more useful than the exact number, which too often lacks context. However, if what we want is to know our exact temperature at a specific moment, that variation is not enough. Fortunately, we just need to access the measurement directly from the Apple Watch instead of the Health app.

How we can access the exact temperature

If what we want is to check our exact temperature recorded by the watch at a specific moment, these are the steps to follow:

  1. Open the Settings app on our Apple Watch.
  2. Go to the Health section.
  3. Select Health Data.
  4. Go to Body Measurements.
  5. Tap on Wrist Temperature.

Here we’ll find a list of all the readings, ordered from most recent to oldest. We should keep in mind, though, that the Apple Watch’s temperature sensor is not designed to give instant readings like a digital thermometer. The system records temperature mainly during sleep, automatically choosing the optimal time to do so.

Without having to constantly monitor things, being able to access key health metrics is extremely useful. A proactive approach that allows us to anticipate certain situations and prevent others. In addition to seeing the trend in our body temperature, we can also get an exact reading at a given moment. Fortunately, it’s as simple as knowing where to look.
