In a recent update, Apple has surprised us by announcing that the batteries of the iPhone 15 line have a significantly longer lifespan than initially expected. This is great news if you acquired one of these iPhone models last year: their actual durability will be double.

iPhone 15 batteries last twice as long: A welcome surprise

Until now, Apple had estimated that the batteries of its iPhone 15 would retain up to 80% of their original capacity after 500 complete charge cycles. However, after a series of exhaustive tests, the company revealed to 9to5Mac that the devices can actually maintain up to 80% of their original capacity after 1000 complete charge cycles. In other words, their lifespan is twice as long as announced.

This notable improvement in the battery life expectancy is attributed to the continuous updates that Apple has implemented in battery components and energy management systems over the years. In this regard, Apple has made it easier to check the battery charge cycle count through the Settings app, offering us greater transparency and control over the state of our devices.

It's important to specify that this improvement applies exclusively to the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max models. Previous iPhone models continue to be rated for up to 80% capacity after 500 charge cycles. However, it seems the company is also investigating the batteries of older models, and there could be future updates in this regard.

We already know that the iPhone 15 Pro Max beats the Galaxy S24 Ultra in battery life. But for anyone with one of the iPhone 15 models, this is excellent news, promising longer autonomy in the long term and, consequently, a reduction in the need to replace the battery or the device as frequently.
