iOS-18-compatibilidad

The arrival of iOS 18 has long been anticipated as one of the most significant updates to date. And device compatibility is one of the biggest questions, especially for users with older iPhone or iPad models. We share what the latest rumors say on the subject.

With Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) scheduled for June, just a few months after the big Apple spring event, rumors about iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 have been circulating for some time.

For now, we think it may take some inspiration from visionOS, will come with more power in Siri and the Messages app and will be loaded with AIs, some of which have already been confirmed, helping us in video creation, image editing, improvements in Spotlight, Xcode, and much more.

iPhone models compatible with iOS 18

Aaron Perris, a MacRumors contributor, discovered a recent leak from a user on Twitter sharing which iPhones iOS 18 will be compatible with. The information has already been deleted. However, many of his previously deleted messages contained accurate information. So, although we take it as what it is, a rumor, this is what it tells us:

  • iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS, XS Max, XR
  • iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)

iPad models compatible with iOS 18

In the case of iPads, it is rumored that iPadOS 18 will no longer support older models equipped with the A10X Fusion chip, including the first-generation 10.5-inch iPad Pro and the second-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, both released in 2017. Additionally, according to a new rumor, iPads already compatible with iPadOS 17 will continue to be supported by iPadOS 18. These include:

  • iPad Pro from 2018 and later
  • iPad Air from 2019 and later
  • iPad mini from 2019 and later
  • iPad from 2019 and later

This is a decision that surprises many, as the second-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro and the 10.5-inch iPad Pro being left out of the update are equipped with the A10X Fusion chip, much more powerful than the A10 Fusion chip of the 7th generation iPad, first introduced in 2019, which will be compatible with iPadOS 18.

Although these rumors offer us an encouraging perspective on the next major update of the iOS operating system, it's important to take this information with caution until it is officially confirmed. Something that will happen soon, in June, and will reach all of us in September of this year, bringing us a flood of changes and improvements for our technological day-to-day life.
