iOS-18-Beta

At WWDC 2024, which took place last Monday, the new features of iOS 18 stood out among the array of updates introduced with iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and watchOS 11. The developer beta of this operating system is now available for installation. So, if we're eager to try out the new features on our iPhone right away, here's how to get started with this first beta.

From the moment of the Keynote, all the new operating systems were available in their developer beta versions. In about a month, a public beta will be released, and the official version will be available to everyone in the fall.

Although initially, the first betas were only available to subscribers of the Apple Developer Program (which has an annual fee), now any user with an Apple ID can access these betas without needing anything else. So, for those of us who don't mind the potential bugs or instabilities of using a version still in testing, here are the steps to install the iOS 18 beta on our iPhone.

How to install the iOS 18 Developer Beta

Before installing the iOS 18 beta, let's make sure our iPhone is compatible and create a full backup in case we want to revert back to iOS 17. From here:

1. Join the Apple Software Beta Program:
To download the iOS 18 beta, we need to register for free with the Apple Software Beta Program. For this, let's visit developer.apple.com from Safari, go to Account, log in with our Apple ID, and accept the terms of Apple's developer agreement.

2. Install the iOS 18 beta:
Once registered in the Program, go to Settings > General > Software Update. Here, we should see the Beta Updates option. If it's not visible, disable the Download iOS Updates option (found under Automatic Updates) and try again. Once the beta appears, select the iOS 18 beta, tap Download and Install, and then we only have to wait. It's recommended that our device is updated to the latest version of iOS 17 before starting.

By following these simple steps, we can enjoy all the new features of iOS 18 before its official release, while also providing valuable feedback to help improve the final version of the operating system that will be released to everyone this fall along with the revolutionary Apple Intelligence.
