Yesterday, Apple surprised us with the introduction of new iMac models that incorporate the powerful M4 chip, Apple Intelligence, camera enhancements, a nano-textured display option, and more. All within an ultra-slim design available in a range of striking colors. These changes promise to elevate our experience with this beloved desktop computer.
M4 Chip, Apple Silicon, and a New Camera to Start
Equipped with the M4 chip, the new 24-inch iMacs offer performance up to 1.7 times greater in daily productivity tasks and up to 2.1 times faster in intensive activities such as photo editing and gaming, compared to previous models with the M1 chip. And this new chip not only increases efficiency for everyday use but also enhances capabilities in professional workflows, supported by 16GB of unified memory as standard, configurable up to 32GB, and SSD storage options up to 2TB.
Improvements also extend to the camera, with a significant upgrade including a 12-megapixel sensor and the Center Stage feature, which dynamically adjusts the camera to keep us centered during video calls. Additionally, the Desk View function simultaneously shows our face and a top-down view of our desk, ideal for presentations, for example.
The entry-level model of this new iMac with an 8-core M4 chip comes with two Thunderbolt 4 ports. The high-end models feature four USB-C ports with support for Thunderbolt 4, offering ultra-fast data transfer and the ability to connect multiple accessories.
Apple has also updated its accessories, the Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad, which now feature USB-C ports for more versatile and direct charging and connection.
A Familiar Design Sporting New Colors
The design of the new iMac remains true to the aesthetic we know and introduces seven new vibrant color options: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, and blue, plus the traditional silver.
It also introduces for the first time in the Apple silicon models, a nano-textured display option, which significantly reduces reflections while maintaining exceptional image quality, ideal for brightly lit environments.
iMac with M4: Availability and Pricing
The new iMac is now available for pre-order starting today and will be available in stores from Friday, November 8. Prices start at $1,299 and go up to $1,699 for the most powerful version.
With the incredible features of Apple Intelligence and the powerful performance of Apple silicon, this iMac sets new standards for what we can expect from a desktop computer in terms of performance, design, and functionality.
