Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall: All the Movies of this unique couple on Apple TV

Humphrey Bogart y Lauren Bacall, el singular matrimonio que protagonizó estas 4 obras de arte

The Bogart-Bacall duo is known as one of the most famous of Hollywood's golden era for their great on-screen chemistry and their unique and magnetic acting style. Therefore, we've compiled the 4 movies they starred in together, all of which are available on Apple TV.

When Nancy Keith, the wife of renowned director Howard Hawks, saw a young model on the cover of Harper's Bazaar magazine, she insisted her husband to audition her for his upcoming film: To Have and Have Not.

Obediently, Hawks asked his secretary to find more information about the model, but the secretary got confused and, instead, sent the girl a ticket to travel to Hollywood for the audition. And just like that, Lauren Bacall arrived in Hollywood.

Upon meeting her, Hawks immediately cast her in her debut role opposite the legendary Humphrey Bogart. Despite the age gap of 25 years (she was 20, he was 45) and an initial coolness between them, their chemistry was undeniable, both on and off the screen. Following the film's release and Bogart's divorce, Bacall and Humphrey tied the knot. A relationship that, against all Hollywood expectations, was long and happy, until Bogart's death.

Together they made 4 movies, all of them with a similar style of film noir, drama thrillers, and crime plots, a cinematic genre closely associated with Bogart.

To Have and Have Not

In 1944, they met for the first time on the set of the film noir To Have and Have Not. This movie is set during World War II. Harry Morgan (Bogart) is a sailor who, with his friend Eddie, lives peacefully on the island of Martinique where they rent out their leisure boat to make a living. Despite not wanting to get involved, he ends up helping the leader of the French resistance and his wife. Meanwhile, he falls in love with a lounge singer (Bacall).

The Big Sleep

Two years later, in 1946, they filmed the acclaimed movie The Big Sleep, also directed by Howard Hawks. Another iconic film noir, probably their finest collaboration and one of the genre's most renowned titles. In The Big Sleep, a millionaire general, with two young daughters involved in shady dealings, calls on private detective Philip Marlowe (Bogart) to solve a mysterious case. When Marlowe starts to investigate, he finds himself entangled in a real mess, dealing with murders, blackmail, and love.

Dark Passage

Dark Passage came out a year later, featuring Vincent Parry (Bogart) on a quest to uncover the true perpetrator of a crime that wrongfully landed him in prison. Along the way, he finds an ally in a compassionate and captivating woman (Bacall), who aids him in his fight to clear his name.

Key Largo

Their fourth and final movie together was Key Largo in 1948. War veteran Frank McCloud (Bogart) visits the father and widow (Lauren Bacall) of his former war buddy at their family hotel in Key Largo, Florida. Upon arrival, he finds a gang of mobsters staying there. Despite the complications, Frank will take care of putting everyone in their place.
