Can I install iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, or watchOS 11? Here are the compatible iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches for the new updates

At WWDC 2024, Apple announced the new software updates for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and watchOS 11. After seeing the extensive list of great new features coming to our devices, we will explore the list of devices compatible with these updates.

iPhones Compatible with iOS 18

The latest version of the iPhone operating system, iOS 18, has expanded its compatibility to a variety of models, ensuring that more users can enjoy its improvements and new features, such as a customizable home screen and a completely redesigned Photos app. The models of iPhones that will be able to install iOS 18 include:

  • iPhone XR, XS, XS Max
  • iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max

It is important to note that while all these models will be able to update to iOS 18, only the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will enjoy the new capabilities of Apple Intelligence, as these require the A17 Pro or M1 chip or later versions to function properly.

iPads Compatible with iPadOS 18

Along with iOS 18, iPadOS 18 was also announced, which will no longer support some older models (the first-generation 10.5-inch iPad Pro, the second-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, and the sixth-generation iPad), but will include the following in its list of compatible devices:

  • iPad Pro (with M4 chip)
  • iPad Pro 12.9 inches (from the 3rd generation)
  • iPad Pro 11 inches (from the 1st generation)
  • iPad Air (with M2 chip and from the 3rd generation)
  • iPad (from the 7th generation)
  • iPad mini (from the 5th generation)

Macs Compatible with macOS Sequoia

The new version of macOS, known as Sequoia, will continue the trend of compatibility with devices that have Apple Silicon chips, from the M1 onwards, as well as some Intel-based models. Here is the list of compatible Macs:

  • iMac from 2019 and later
  • iMac Pro from 2017 and later
  • Mac Studio from 2022
  • MacBook Air from 2020 and later
  • Mac mini from 2018 and later
  • MacBook Pro from 2018 and later
  • Mac Pro from 2019 and later

It appears that the Apple Intelligence features will be available only on Macs with an M1 chip or later.

Apple Watches Compatible with watchOS 11

The Apple Watch also receives its share of updates with watchOS 11, which will include improvements in health and fitness, as well as the Live Activities function and the Translate app. The compatible models are:

  • Apple Watch SE (2nd generation)
  • Apple Watch Series 6, 7, 8, 9
  • Apple Watch Ultra (1st and 2nd generation)

Apple TVs Compatible with tvOS 18

Apple has also renewed the operating system for our Apple TVs. An update that will be compatible with the following devices:

  • Apple TV HD (2015)
  • Apple TV 4K (2017, 2nd generation 2021, and 3rd generation 2022)

Although developers can already enjoy the first versions of the updates from yesterday, the public beta will be available in a month, in July. Meanwhile, the official version of the new operating systems and Apple Intelligence will arrive in the fall. And this wide compatibility announced ensures that by then, a large number of users will be able to update our devices, enhancing our experience with new and innovative features.
