Apple yesterday unveiled the new MacBook Neo, a laptop that brings us closer to the Mac experience by striking a truly surprising balance between design, display, battery life, and performance. At a time when we are looking for lightweight, powerful, and easy-to-carry devices, Apple is offering us a MacBook designed for everyday use and, on top of that, with a starting price of $599 that makes it especially appealing.
A great MacBook (in a very appealing size)
The MacBook Neo has arrived to quickly become the kind of Mac that fits naturally at home, in the classroom, or in a travel backpack without giving up what makes the platform special. A laptop designed for those who want to move over from Windows and get a machine that balances quality, performance, and price in a very elegant way.

In terms of design, Apple uses an aluminium chassis with soft lines weighing just 1.22 kg, which makes it very comfortable to carry around. The MacBook Neo is available in four colours: blush, indigo, silver, and a new citrus shade that has quickly become the standout favourite in the lineup. With a matching Magic Keyboard, light and pleasant tones, and wallpapers designed to complete the overall look, the result is a durable, elegant, and colourful laptop that conveys the best of Apple’s aesthetic from the very first glance.
The display is another of its strong points, featuring a 13-inch Liquid Retina panel with a resolution of 2 408 x 1 506, 500 nits of brightness, and support for one billion colours. These specifications may sound abstract, but they translate into sharp text for studying or working, highly detailed images, and video with extra vibrancy. Add to that the anti-reflective coating that improves comfort in different environments, and we have a display that, without trying to approach the very best we find in Apple’s other devices, gives us more than enough quality for what we do on a Mac.
A18 Pro, Apple Intelligence, and battery life for a full working day
At the heart of the MacBook Neo is the A18 Pro chip. Apple positions this processor around the most common uses: web browsing, documents, content consumption, light photo editing, and AI features integrated into apps. Compared with PC laptops using Intel Core Ultra 5, we gain up to 50% more performance in tasks such as browsing and up to twice the speed in photo editing.
When it comes to AI, the new laptop includes a 16-core Neural Engine ready to run Apple Intelligence directly on the device. Apple speaks of up to three times more performance in AI workloads, so applying advanced photo effects or summarising notes in compatible apps takes only seconds.
For battery life, Apple promises up to 16 hours, a figure that fits very well with full days moving between classes, meetings, the library, and everything else. On the multimedia side, the MacBook Neo includes a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, dual microphones with directional beamforming, and side speakers with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos support. The idea is to deliver clear video calls and immersive sound for series, music, games, and other content alike.

For connectivity, we find two USB-C ports, a headphone jack, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 6. Added to that is support for connecting an external display through the USB 3 port on the left, allowing us to go beyond 13 inches whenever we want.
To finish, Apple highlights its environmental focus. The MacBook Neo is the MacBook with the lowest carbon footprint in the brand’s lineup, with 60% recycled content, 90% recycled aluminium overall, and 100% recycled cobalt in the battery. The chassis is made using a process that uses less aluminium than traditional machining, and the packaging uses 100% fibre-based paper.
The price is, of course, the main headline, with the MacBook Neo starting at $599, or $499 with the education discount. Pre-orders are already open, and the first units will begin arriving on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The MacBook Neo directly answers those of us asking for a lightweight laptop, well built and with a capable display, but without forcing us into higher-end ranges to enjoy the Mac experience. A machine designed for real everyday use, with more than enough performance for studying, working, and watching content, while its battery life stays with us through a full day without having to think about the charger. The best of Apple in one of the smallest and most interesting Macs in recent years.
