Authorizing and deauthorizing a Mac in Apple Music is a really simple process. With it, we will know which machines can access our music, books, and purchases. To manage these authorizations, the steps to follow are:

  1. Open the Music app on our Mac.
  2. In the Account menu, make sure that the Apple ID we want to authorize or deauthorize access for is displayed.
  3. Click on Authorizations and choose Deauthorize This Computer or Authorize This Computer, depending on what we need.

If we are asked for the Apple ID password, we enter it and press the Authorize or Deauthorize button to complete the process. As we can see, it’s a really simple process, but sometimes we get an error message. The most common ones are the following, and their solution is quite simple.

  • The message "No more than 5 computers can be authorized" indicates that we have reached the allowed limit and will need to deauthorize one or more devices, just as we have just seen, before proceeding to authorize the one we are interested in.
  • If we receive a message stating that "This computer is not authorized," we will need to specifically authorize that Mac.
  • If we already have five authorized computers and need to include a new one, deauthorizing all of them and then authorizing them individually can be an effective solution to reset our authorization status.

It is little known, certainly, but managing authorizations in Apple Music is an essential component to ensure that only the devices we choose have access to our digital content and, on the other hand, that we have access to all that content from all the Macs that suit us.
