Netflix has confirmed the renewal of Avatar: The Last Airbender for two more seasons following the success of the first one. Thus, we can continue to enjoy the epic journey of Aang and his friends as they face new challenges and the Avatar learns to master all elements to save the world. But what can we expect from these new installments?
The success of Avatar: The Last Airbender in its live-action version on Netflix has been overwhelming, surpassing many expectations. The series captured the attention of global audiences, reviving interest in the Avatar universe, with a record 21.2 million views in its opening weekend and ranking first in the most viewed in 76 countries.
The first season of the remake ended with a spectacular battle at the Northern Water Tribe with Aang embodying the gigantic monster Koizilla. But this imposing finale only marks the beginning of a long journey that has just started for Aang and his friends. With the promise that the entire main cast will return for the next seasons, how do we expect the story to unfold?
'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Seasons 2 and 3
The second and third seasons will primarily take us through Aang's journey of learning and personal growth, who, by the end of the first season, has already demonstrated his capacity to make difficult choices and sacrifice himself for the greater good.
He must learn to master the remaining elements, water, earth, and fire, and be able to control the Avatar State if he wants to defeat Fire Lord Ozai. And sooner rather than later, as Ozai has already managed to have his daughter Azula besiege Omashu, the second-largest city in the Earth Kingdom, and Sozin's Comet, capable of exponentially increasing the power of firebenders and granting them victory, is approaching.
It is not easy to predict what adventures will come next for the Avatar team, as, although it is full of nods, it is not following the same storyline as the original series. Nickelodeon's series structures its seasons around the nations, starting with the Water Nation, followed by the Earth, and finally Fire. However, in this first season of the remake, we have witnessed several surprising combinations and mixes for those familiar with the original story.
But if, despite this, we assume that this first season on Netflix corresponds to the first book, that is, Water, this suggests that we still have the opportunity to see the introduction to the Gaang of a character much beloved by fans and whom we have missed: Toph, the Avatar's Earthbending master.
It is also expected that the series will delve into the personal development of Sokka and Katara, highlighting their place in this great adventure and their valuable help to the Avatar; the relationship between Zuko and his uncle Iroh, always full of valuable lessons, exploring redemption and the search for identity; and even the role of Azula, with her calculating nature and ambition, her friends, and perhaps even her mother.
With the introduction of new characters and the evolution of the already known ones, we will see how seasons two and three of Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix will expand the wonderful universe created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Expectations are high, but if anything has been demonstrated by Netflix with the quality of its work, it is that they are more than capable of successfully carrying out this task.
