Marvel Studios has officially announced the cast and release date for their new adaptation of The Fantastic Four. The announcement, on Valentine's Day, confirmed most of the rumors that have been circulating for months and has established a new chapter for these iconic characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
A new cast for a new era in the Marvel Universe
Pedro Pascal (known for his work in The Last of Us, Game of Thrones, and The Mandalorian) will lead the team as Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic. Beside him, Vanessa Kirby (who has showcased her talent in Mission: Impossible and Hobbs & Shaw) will portray Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman. Completing the team, Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear and Andor) will bring to life Ben Grimm, The Thing; and Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) will be the Human Torch.
Marvel Studios posted yesterday on its X account (formerly Twitter), a comic-style drawing in which we can see them all wearing blue jumpsuits, seated in a living room with a poster that reads "Happy Valentine's Day". In addition, the post was accompanied by the release date for The Fantastic Four: July 25, 2025, thus inaugurating the sixth phase of the MCU.
The truth is that the production of this new Disney version of the comics has not been without challenges, including delays and changes in both direction and script. However, under the direction of Matt Shakman (WandaVision, Fargo) and with a screenplay by Josh Friedman (Avatar: The Way of Water), Marvel Studios is confident they have found the right tone for this ambitious adaptation.
As an ever-expanding universe, this represents a unique opportunity for Marvel to surpass previous adaptations and explore new narrative horizons. Therefore, the new cast hopes to refresh the image of The Fantastic Four and definitively integrate them into the MCU, with a renewed vision that offers an experience that lives up to these beloved characters.
