Apple's new original series, Masters of the Air, promises to deliver heavy doses of drama and action. This series is generating high expectations, and now, its first trailer has been released.

'Masters of the Air': an epic journey through the skies of World War II

Masters of the Air, one of the upcoming additions to Apple TV+ (which is considering a joint streaming plan with Paramount+), is set to premiere globally in January 2024. This war series, based on the acclaimed book by Donald L. Miller, tells the story of the 100th Bomb Group, known as the "Bloody Hundredth," and their brave performance in dangerous bombing missions over Nazi Germany. And, recently, Apple has unveiled its first full trailer.

The trailer begins with Major Gale Cleven, played by Austin Butler, committing to keep in touch with his girlfriend through letters during his deployment, hinting at his concern about how the war might change him, to the point of not recognizing himself upon his return.

Throughout the action-packed trailer, with planes soaring high in the sky and a soundtrack that certainly captures the intensity of the moment, the growing friendship between Cleven and Major John Egan, played by Callum Turner, is also revealed. This relationship seems to be the central axis of the story and one of the most highlighted aspects of the series, which aims to "portray the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich".

The series stands out not only for its striking narrative and impressive visual effects but also for its top-notch cast. Headlined by Oscar nominee Austin Butler and closely followed by Callum Turner, the cast includes Anthony Boyle, Nate Mann, Rafferty Law, Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan, Josiah Cross, Branden Cook, and Ncuti Gatwa.

Behind the scenes, the team is equally impressive. Remember that Masters of the Air will have Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman as executive producers. Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Dee Rees, and Tim Van Patten will be the directors. And the script is by John Orloff. Overall, the series shapes up to be a collaborative work of experts in their field.

This alliance of big names in the industry promises a series that will not only entertain but also educate and inspire, faithfully and respectfully portraying the sacrifices of these young soldiers. As a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought in the skies during one of the most complex times in humanity.

Masters of the Air will premiere globally on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes of its nine-episode season on Friday, January 26, followed by a new episode every Friday through March 15, 2024.
